Cromer Windmill, near Stevenage, is Hertfordshire’s sole-surviving post mill and was restored in 1998 with the aid of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Luke Bonwick was asked to carry out research into the history of milling on the site, to provide illustrated displays using this research material and, subsequently, to produce a comprehensive guide booklet highlighting the mill’s national significance.
CROMER WINDMILL: HISTORY AND GUIDE is a fascinating insight into the fortunes of Hertfordshire’s sole-surviving post mill. The booklet combines a wealth of cartographic and historical evidence with evocative monochrome illustrations. Original line drawings explain the processes of converting grain into flour using the power of the wind.
